Poetry Published

The time has come! My hard work has finally paid off and I am now published in a book for charity called 'Battered Shadows'.

The book was created by multiple authors from around the world, designed by Selina Ahnert and Edited by Bathsheba Daily to raise money for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Arnie Is Back In The Game!

Well this was a real treat for me! I am a massive Arnie fan so watching this was a no brainer! I love the cheesy lines and the slightly unbelievable action sequences considering his age! However this film hits all the right spots. Arnie has not been defeated by his age but has come to terms with it by still holding his ground as one of the top action hero's while still maintaining a realistic edge.

This film has romance, action, more action and guns! What more could you ask for? I like the storyline of a highly dangerous drug cartel crossing the small town in his massive escape route to the Mexican Boarder to be faced with an unlikely team of misfits who come together to defend their Town. I also like the slight dig at the FBI who couldn't manage to stop the gangster while the small town of Sommerton had no problem!

What I love about Schwarzenegger films is the fact that you always come away from them remembering a tag line or a quote and this film does deliver:

''We are not going to let that guy come through our town without a fight''

My only niggling issue is the fact that Eduardo Noregia who played this ruthless drug cartel (Gabriel) is not really scary enough. He is very small and kind of cringey in his mannerisms (when trying to act tough) so I wish we had a better villain to fear! I fully enjoyed the fight scene at the end, as he showed some expert fighting moves but he was no match - seriously I felt like jumping in!



Good film, Great action sequences but not a tough enough cartel to take on Arnie!

Revolutionary Road (2008)

I really enjoyed this film, watched it last night for the first time and I was in awe at how Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio played the inverse of their characters in Titanic (1997) 11 years ago. This is the only film since then that they have acted alongside each other. Fantastic portrayal of the breakdown of a relationship and of love. It was a whole different perspective of the pair and it really hits a nerve with me. Brilliant film but such a shame Leo didn't win the award for Best Actor here as his performance was top class.

This film is UNREAL! I knew from the moment I saw the poster that I was going to love it. It has everything, from romance to violence with a true story element and Mob bosses! It is set in 1949 when Mickey Cohen was at the height of his reign in LA and focuses on a secret police force set up to tear down his ruthless campaign to take over.

Every character is flawless in this film, excellent casting and great acting. Sean Penn as Cohen is effortless, he captures the cruel essence very well. I was really impressed by this line up but even more impressed with the delivery of their work. Each character is believable in the role and within that era. Emma Stone is on point as the sexy red-headed vixen and really shines in this film for me as a supporting actress, she has come a long way since Superbad as the lovely girl-next-door. Ryan Gosling is charismatic and easy to watch on screen, previously I have found him quite an introverted actor so it was a nice change. I could go on but to be honest I enjoyed every aspect of this film from the script, the cinematography and the casting.

I think this is the best film I have seen since Lawless and appeals to anyone who loves a good Gangster flick. It could have done with a little bit more violence, an 18 rating maybe as I felt parts were a little tame.

Faultless film, a real MUST SEE

My Opinion On Skyfall

Skyfall (2012) Rating 12A

Firstly, I am going to state outright that I am not the biggest fan of the Bond films (I know a lot my loyal readers will gasp at this comment) but for some reason it has never really rocked my boat. I am partial to the ones starring Sean Connery as I feel he epitomises the real action man! He is charming and suave as well as being a believable tough guy!

However I have never found the more recent ones (starring Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig) to be that thrilling. To be honest I prefer Pierce (look at me on first name basis like I know the guy), as at least I can see what would attract the ladies to him but Daniel Craig....really? I literally can only think they chose him for the role because he comes across as tough with a good set of abs. I know I will get some kind of backlash for this but I just don't like him as Bond...I find him boring, barely charming and just a drip.

Back to the actual film, I did like the action sequences but I found it a little bit long winded. It seemed to last for a Century and I found myself getting a bit confused (and a little sleepy). I also found out consequently that this film has been rated 2nd in the 2012 Movie Releases with the most mistakes (moviemistakes.com) with a total of 35 errors ... no wonder I was confused!

If you are a lover of the Bond franchise then of course, you have to see the 23rd instalment but for me, it is a little bit overly stretched now!

One to watch

Went to see Jack Reacher (12A):

Stuck for something to see at the flicks this week? Not too sure if a three hour film about some Hobbit you thought you had left behind in Lord of the Rings is the one for you (no offence but I am kind of anti-fantasty in some respects)? Well Jack Reacher is an easy choice as it combines all the great things that make a good film with one of the great action stars who is now doing a role suited to his age yet still a badass (a short bad ass but a badass none the less).

What a film! Tom Cruise is believable and it has a great action/comedy mix! I really enjoyed trying to figure out who was behind the crimes and it had some great acting to boot! Good casting and a sound storyline.

Christmas Spirit

It's already nearly that time of year. The lights and trees have gone up and been meticulously decorated, parents are frantically buying presents already, the stores are rammed full of eager shoppers and the Christmas films are already starting to air on TV.

I love this time of year. It is full of generosity and hope for a new beginning, whether you take this with a religious undertone or just the start of a new year on the horizon.

This is one of my favourite months because of the excellent TV viewing, from Christmas films to the re-runs of old shows, everything goes on in the anticipation of people on their Christmas holidays and as with any festive season, I will always attempt to provide some options for viewing.

I tend to put down my favourite films in the hope people either agree or consider a new or different film they may not have ever watched. This time I will also provide films that I am keen to watch that have been recommended to me by others.

Halloween Antics

As I mentioned before, I attended a Halloween Party organised by my Aunty to help her promote her Tarot Reading practise. She set up spooky decorations, a spread of Halloween themed food as well as providing Tarot Readings for her guests.

She also had a guest Reader who specialises in Telepathy and animal communication. We had people waiting to have their readings and some even came back for a second one!

The time has come and below are a couple of MUST SEE films tonight! Whether you are going to a party in fancy dress or trick or treating (hopefully just the kids doing this haha) you should definitely find some time to stick on a scary film and get those goosebumps going! Get the popcorn ready, and don't forget the answer to the very important question...

To be honest, around this time of year, any horror film can be watched and enjoyed. The above just happen to be my favourites but below are some other classics that can give you all a good scare!

The Origin of Trick-or-Treating

Trick-or-Treating is also known as 'Guising' and has been recorded as far back at 1895 in Scotland and may have links to Celtic festivals. There are a few theories contesting where it began but it seems to have become far more popular since the 1950s, especially in Northern America. 'Souling' (England and Ireland)has also been linked to this tradition where the poor would go from house to house singing hymns to the dead to receive food or coins. Nowadays children dress up to receive sweets and it tends to result in a house being 'tricked' (usually by egging the house) if the owners do not comply to the offering of treats.

It is safe to say that years ago the costumes were far more haunting (above) and I do think it is customary for most houses to provide a pot of sweets for children, even if you leave it on the porch. I always try and provide sweets to avoid being tricked! I can't say I agree with the idea of being tricked in the first place and since there is no real evidence for children in the past to ever vandalise I don't really see how this came about! It was usually said and never done it seems.

Decorating ones home around this time of year was originally done to ward off evil spirits which explains the presence of a scary 'lantern' made from a pumpkin.

I love this time of year but I never really go all out like they do in America although I would love to visit my family over there to experience it! I need to add that to the Bucket List :)

Trick 'r Treat (2007)

I was having a little look online for some interesting films I could watch around this spooky time of year and I cam across this film Trick 'r Treat, written and directed by Michael Dougherty. It includes four Halloween focused stories which interweave to create one. They all feature Sam, a Trick or Treater who teaches all why we shouldn't break the Halloween traditions.

As soon as I saw the images for this film I thought it looked quite creepy and even though it isn't recent, it is new to me so I will be watching this!

A Few Family Films...

Funnily enough these two great family films (both PG)were made the same year and they are both funny and creepy but enjoyable for any age! I have watched both every year since I can remember and I still enjoy them thoroughly.
